Construction of a new two-storey educational building within the grounds of the existing school.

Construction is now complete on the new post-16 building at Heanor Gate Spencer Academy in Derbyshire. The finished facility stands as a remarkable addition to the campus, delivering the high-quality, modern learning environment envisioned at the outset. The project has been delivered on time and within budget, providing a dedicated space that enhances opportunities for the academy’s growing student body.

Overcoming a significant engineering challenge — building on land that spans a historic open-cast coal mine — was central to the project’s success. Working closely with GCA Consulting (Structural Engineers), Menard (Ground Stabilisation Specialists), and MTE (Timber Frame Specialists), we implemented a comprehensive and effective ground-stabilisation solution.

We excavated the bedrock to a minimum depth of 2 m and installed more than 100 deep concrete piles, creating a secure and enduring foundation for the new structure. Bailey Construction led the delivery with expertise and precision, ensuring the building was completed to the highest standard.

This project represents a major investment in the future of Heanor Gate Spencer Academy, now providing purpose-built, contemporary facilities for post-16 education. We are proud to see the vision fully realised and already benefiting students for years to come.
